Breast Health GPS, iPhone app (FREE in iTunes), allowed users to locate the
nearest mammogram screening center anywhere in the United States( using
GPS technology and government database.) It was the #1 breast cancer app in Apple’s iTunes store upon its release in 2010 and for the following 18 months.
Breast Cancer 411, iPad app (FREE in iTunes), provided current information
regarding breast cancer research. The app included the Ten Things You Need
To Know about breast cancer and links to the Breast Health & Healing
Foundation website, Dr. Ruddy’s Breast Cancer Blog and social
networking sites.
Lobby Me Pink, iPhone/Blackberry/Android (FREE), provided all contact information for every member of Congressmen in Washington, D.C. using zip
code prompts. The app also allowed users to send personal emails directly to the Chiefs of Staff and Health Policy Advisors for every Member of Congress. At the time, Lobby Me Pink was the only app that provided this information and
functionality. The app also linked to the Breast Health & Healing Foundation
website, Dr. Ruddy’s Breast Cancer Blog and her social networking sites.
Research
Mammogram Screening Project, 1995-96: Screened 1000 women in Essex
County, New Jersey using a collaborative network of primary care physicians.
The study was designed by Dr. Ruddy and was funded by Cancer Treatment Centers of America through the Clara Maass Medical Center.
Mammogram Screening Initiative, 2006 – 2010: The objective was to evaluate
the number of women over the age of forty employed at the Clara Maass
Medical Center to study the rate of mammographic screening in this unique
population of healthcare providers. Using a questionnaire and participatory
research design, Dr. Ruddy intended to discover ways to increase the number of employees screened annually. She hoped to secure funds to expand this study to include other hospitals in the St. Barnabas Healthcare System, the largest healthcare
system (and largest private employer) in New Jersey.
Mammographic Screening Initiative – Uganda, 2007 – 2009. Funded by the
World Health Organization in collaboration with WHO staff and the Ministry
of Healthy in Kampala, Uganda.
Pink Virus Project, 2009 – 2020
This was a collaborative network of physicians and scientists interested in answering the question, Does a virus cause breast cancer in women?
Specifically, the project centered on research about the human mammary tumor virus, thought to be involved with 40-75% of all human breast cancer. Researcher professors from George Washington University, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, George Mason
University and the University of New South Wales, New Zealand were involved
in this project, initiated in September 2009 at a Breast Cancer
Summit sponsored by Senator Susan Collins (Maine) and held on Capitol Hill.
